We
are all knowledgeable regarding the current problems facing the Cat Fancy;
decreasing registrations, increasing costs, AR activists. Each day the list
of potential obstacles to the continuation of our hobby grows longer. But,
as a group, we are in a position to change the perception of the public and
make them aware of the problems that face us all as cat owners. It is my
belief that strength comes from the roots of an organization, and if all
the Regions that make up CFA are strong and healthy then we WILL win the
fight!
I have always felt that the job of the Regional Director should be to first and foremost represent the clubs and exhibitors in their Region to the Board. In order to do that, there needs to be a much greater level of communication among all the exhibitors. I would like to see a monthly newsletter not just about our problems, but our successes. One exhibitor mentioned to me that they would like to know who we are when we leave the showhall - we are not only what we breed! I would also like to conduct at least one Regional meeting a month, if possible, in different areas of the Region - especially in those areas were there may only be one show a year. We all have many of the same concerns. Discussion is a valuable tool in finding answers.
Our smaller states with few breeders should be looked at as an opportunity to promote CFA in new locations- perhaps by having several smaller clubs put on a show together. We have a new option to license back to back 6 ring shows with several clubs participating. This is a unique way to cut costs and give everyone a greater opportunity to showcase their cats.
We are also faced with the declining numbers of exhibitors. We must find a way to bring new people into the Cat Fancy. Our Junior Showmanship program needs to be expanded to encourage our younger exhibitors into taking part in show production as well as offering the opportunities for them to become our future clerks and judges. Every show should have an *Ambassador* table with information about CFA, responsible breeding, why it is important to purchase a CFA registered cat, notices about impending legislation in the area, spay and neuter clinics, and any other vital information the public needs to know. Let´s get people excited about CFA - they could be our newest exhibitors and best supporters!
Our Region has had strong leadership resulting in many successes. We have
just held an exceptional Annual Meeting and must start looking to 2014 when the
Now, the most important part! What are my qualifications and why should you vote for me as your Regional Director? I have been active in CFA since 1986 and registered my cattery, Caterrific, in 1987. While my start was by showing a rescue HHP, my breeds of choice were Scottish Folds and Japanese Bobtails. Due to my business and the amount of time I am away from home, I have not had the ability to maintain a breeding program. However, I have continued to show, vend, and/or clerk at many shows in the Region so I will be available on a regular basis to discuss any problems or suggestions you might have.
I have lived in the
I am currently a member of the Houston Cat Club and Treasurer of the North Texas Cat Club.
My background outside the Fancy is in Production and Customer Service giving me extensive experience in not only communication and follow-up, but also planning and budgeting.
I would appreciate your vote for Regional Director of the CFA Gulf Shore Region. We have a great tradition to live up to and I would like your support in continuing our successes. If you would like to discuss my position on any item important to you or your club please feel free to contact me at the below number or by e-mail.
